
You already get most characters when the game begins
In UFO: Afterlight you have limited human resources, and extremely limited supply. Each character has unique appearance, voice, and background story, and is irreplaceable.
Each character belongs to one or two of the three classes, and each class has different jobs.
- Soldier: Engage with hostilities.
- Scientist: Research and constructing stations.
- Technician: Production and constructing buildings and stations.
Some characters are multiclass. As characters increase in level, they can receive trainings and soldiers can also increase attributes.

Note: Three martian recruits are available after three Rescue captured alien missions, only happened on Beastmen maps, after Martian peace proposals event. If your game has too few Beastmen maps left, it's possible not to activate those missions. Let Beastmen capture a few areas and the missions will activate there.
The trigger of Rescue captured alien is very loose. If you dont have red-but-no-mission area, you will have to wait days before the mission areas change type to that. So it's a strong recommendation that you leave Beastmen at least 3 areas outside of the gates and Zephyria fortress.
